I’d like to bring my class or a large group to Angel Island. What do I need to do?
School, community, and private groups can schedule visits to the Angel Island Immigration Station year round by calling volunteer coordinator (415) 435-3522. Space is limited and teachers are encouraged to reserve tours early in the school year. When scheduling please have the following information: a list of possible dates for your field trip, how many people in your group, and what boat your group is planning on taking. California state accredited K-12 schools can request a fee waiver from the Angel Island Association when booking their tours. This fee waiver waives the park entrance fee on the weekdays, reducing the cost of the ferry to just the ride itself.
Tours of the Immigration Station are led by park staff or volunteers and are approximately 30-45 minutes long. The site can accomodate 120 people (approximately 4 classes). School tour scheduling often depends on school and ferry schedules. When groups get to the site, order of tours will depend on number of groups visiting the station, as well as the availability of staff and volunteers. There is a small fee of $2.50 per person. This small fee helps to offset the cost of the volunteer program. For more island information, go to the AIA website at www.angelisland.org
What should I bring when I visit?
There are restrooms, picnic benches and BBQs at the Angel Island Immigration Station Site. The weather on Angel Island can change quickly from warm and sunny to windy, cold, and foggy. We recommend dressing in layers including a jacket. You may want to pack a snack, lunch and drinks as there is no food service at the Immigration Station site.
Located at Ayala Cove, the Angel Island Company offers concessions including food and drinks, TramTours, Bike Rentals and the Cove Cafe. These operate seasonally. They are open weekends only in March, April, Spetember (Thursday-Monday), October & until mid-November, and daily May through August. For more current information, please visit their web site: http://www.angelisland.com/
How can I dock my boat or camp on the Island?
To shedule a campsite call Reserve America at 1-800-444-PARK (1-800-444-7275). To reserve a picnic area for a large group call (800) 444-7275.
Private boats can use the boat slips or mooring buoys at Ayala Cove. Slips, 30′ to 50′, are open year round from 8 am to sunset and cost $4. Mooring fees are $10/night May 15 - Sept. 15, and $7/night the rest of the year. Slips and buoys are on a first-come first-served basis.
